I have a deep-seated preference for the Oxford comma that matches most peoples’ beliefs in the sacred. My reasons are best summed up by this image:
What’s the problem, you ask? My primary freelance client demands AP style. AP style does not us the Oxford comma. My grammar “scores” (as determined by the copy editors who review and approve my pieces) are suffering because of my insistence on using the Oxford comma as opposed to conforming to AP style, because in my humble opinion, AP style is fucking wrong. My rebellion is costing me points, but I’m not going to do something “wrong” just because some stupid style book (that, until fairly recently, demanded “website” be written “Web site” and the word “internet” be capitalized) doesn’t understand proper grammar and punctuation. That is all.
